Let's Begin Here

You already know what happened to you. You've analyzed your trauma, dissected it, and talked about it until you're blue in the face.  It's not really healing. Why?

While you're busy trying to think your way out of the loop, your subconscious is busy hiding it in hidden parts of the brain. You might be experiencing dysregulated emotions, depression that won't lift, incessant worry/anxiety, cycling uncomfortable memories or a dull sense of numbness.

Research shows that experiential therapies like Somatic Therapy, Parts Work, IFS, and hypnotherapy can nip these painful issues in the bud. We don’t just manage your symptoms from the surface. That's too simple... and usually won't make a dent in it.

When we stop treating your mind like an isolated computer program and actually learn the language of your subconscious, a spaciousness opens that allows the old loops to naturally move on.

Experiential PTSD Therapy: A Path Back to Your True Self

How Do We Work with Wounded, Traumatized Experinces?

Paige Bartholomew, LMFT. Parts Work therapy for complex PTSD and inner conflict.

In the past - we lived through scary or painful moments that we were too overwhelming to process.  In that moment, our minds did something brilliant... they tucked the feelings safely away for later. They moved them off to the side so we could keep going.

Often, those tucked-away parts don’t stay quiet for long. Instead, they start making themselves known - and can even take over. Why? Because your internal system wants to integrate what didn't get to process before.

Old, unfinished experiences start to make trouble in our lives.  One part of you longs to move forward in life, while another slams on the brakes. The first one says, “Go for it,” the other screams, “STOP! If you make a move, we’ll mess this up!”  That's when unhelpful behavior patterns can begin, like self-sabotage, emotional paralysis, depression, repeating thoughts, anxiety, emotional dysregulation, rage, or just... nothingness.  It can feel like you’re trapped in a war zone - inside your own mind - exhausted, maybe hopeless, and wondering why you can’t just “get it together.”

You can't get it together because your trauma is trapped in a place in the brain where language can't access. We need to reach it a different way.

Parts Work (officially called 'Internal Family Systems') speaks the emotional language of mental imagery, memories, raw emotion and symbols.

Somatic Work speaks the language of the physical body. Repeating injuries, chronic pain, inflammation, chronic illness. These psychical symptoms are all road signs that can direct us to buried PTSD.

Hypnotherapy speaks the language of the autonomic nervous system.  The ANS is where trauma, shock and PTSD like to silently hide.

Together, we'll discover where your parts' secret hide-out is. The place they fled to when tragic situations were too fresh to deal with.  This extraordinary and gentle set of modalities is how we help the system clean itself out. When your parts are seen for what they are, they begin to relax.  The conflict quiets down. Triggers don't feel so big. You finally get to be in charge of your own life again.

This work is really something else!

What Is Parts Work?  (The movie, "Inside Out" tells us!)

Licensed therapy for self sabotage, inner critic, identity confusion, self judgment.

You may have seen the animated movies INSIDE OUT and INSIDE OUT 2.  Those movies are actually BASED on Parts Work. The main character, Riley doesn't just have feelings... she has "parts" of her personality that present like little PEOPLE inside her mind. Each one acts as if it has its own personality, characteristics, belief systems, and attitudes. They aren't "multiple personalities", they are the natural voices that we ALL experience as a natural working of our human brain.

Parts work is an internal conversation. Our parts speak to us even when we don't want them to. They're always awake and giving their opinions.  THE REAL PROBLEM comes when these parts got TOO hurt or scared at a time when we weren't able to handle all the chaos.  That's when the brain cleverly files them away in the basement.  It does this as a protection so we can go on functioning.

Even though disowned parts may cause us to feel uncomfortable, in reality, each part BELIEVES it is helping. The struggle is that these parts cause problems for us in the present.

Somatic Therapy and Parts Work are Personal for Me

Parts work for intrusive thoughts, shame-based systems, unhealed parental, spousal or relational wounds. Emotional overwhelm.
For much of my younger life, I carried traumatic pain that nothing seemed to touch. I searched everywhere for something that could help: books, therapies, workshops, spirituality, healing modalities of every kind. Some gave me real insight and relief for a while... but nothing ever reached the deepest places where the hurt lived.

Then I found Parts Work and Somatic Hypnotherapy. For the first time, I felt something shift... and it wasn’t temporary. This work helped me meet the parts of myself that were terrified, angry, and wounded.  I learned not to push my parts away, but to actually hear them, and to understanding them in ways I never had before. I learned to care for myself... to love all the parts of me, not hate them. I learned to give myself what I'd been needing all along.

Somatic and Parts Work saved me. It showed me that healing doesn’t have to take decades of circling the same pain.

I learned that pain that feels like it's forever... isn’t.

This is why I use it so often in my practice. Because I know what the process feels like. I KNOW that the inner war can end.
