Therapy for Illness
and Chronic Physical Disorders

Paige Bartholomew, LMFT
Licensed Psychotherapist, Hypnotherapist
Paige Bartholomew, LMFT. Hypnotherapy and somatic psychotherapy for illness, chronic pain, autoimmune, and repeated injury.

You're In Pain.  You Don't Have to Sort This Out Alone.

If you've arrived here, pain has likely narrowed your world.  It may have taken your freedom, or trust in your own body. When pain or illness persist, it's often because the body is still holding something unresolved.

I bring 25 years of experience working at the intersection of psychotherapy, hypnotherapy and somatic work.

Chronic Pain and Illness: What’s Really Happening Beneath the Surface

Somatic therapy for chronic illness, fibromyalgia, Lyme, MCAS and unresolved trauma stored in nervous system

Chronic pain is more than just a warning signal.
Pain is meant to alert us when something is wrong, like pulling your hand off a hot stove. But chronic pain lingers long after the initial signal. It becomes a constant presence, affecting mood, sleep, work, and emotional well-being.

Many chronic conditions like vertebral degeneration, fibromyalgia, lupus, MCAS, long Lyme, and Epstein-Barr, and repeated injuries cannot be fully resolved by medical intervention. They often require ongoing pain management, sometimes involving opioids, injections, infusions, or other treatments for autoimmune illness.

Research is changing the way we understand pain.
Doctors now know it’s not just about what’s happening in your body, pain is also shaped by your emotions, your stress levels, and even the support you have around you. When we work with all three: body, mind, and life, pain often stops screaming so loudly. Therapy helps you learn the “language” of your body, so you can hear what it’s trying to tell you and respond before it has to shout.

When Emotions Turn into Pain

Chronic illness and trauma care through neurobiological retraining, psychotherapy and Parts Work.
Somatic psychology teaches that feelings aren’t just in your head, they live in your body. Often, the emotional signature of old trauma shows up exactly where your pain, injury or illness sits in your body.

In Somatic therapy, we track those signals together. When you learn the body’s language, you can locate where your emotional pain is stored and work with it directly. Clients are often amazed that when the emotional weight is released, the physical pain softens, too.

Chronic pain and hopelessness feed each other in a loop: pain can create despair, and despair can worsen pain. Psychotherapy breaks this cycle. By safely moving the trauma at its root, both mood and physical discomfort often begin to shift, sometimes in ways clients never imagined possible.

How Early Trauma Shapes Pain Later

Paige Bartholomew, somatic psychotherapy and hypnotherapy for illness-related depression, despair and chronic pain.
The National Institute of Health reports up to 80% of people with chronic pain experienced relational or physical trauma in early life. These early wounds don’t stay in the past.  They age with you into your future, altering how your body handles stress, how your immune system reacts, and how easily your nervous system is triggered.

One way people begin to see that connection is by taking the ACE test (Adverse Childhood Experiences). It tracks early abuse, neglect, or household chaos before age 18. Higher ACE scores are consistently linked with more adult experience of physical inflammation, more frequent pain, and greater physical wear over time (even when medical care is used).

Learning The Language of Your Body

Most people fight their pain. They numb it, push through it, or try to ignore it.  In my work, we do something revolutionary: we listen. I guide you into a calm, meditative state where your pain can “speak,” and together we discover what it’s been trying to tell you all along. We'll gently use hypnotherapy and Somatic Parts Work (IFS) to speak to your body, and learn what it really needs

Clients are often surprised by what happens next: insight drops in, emotions release, and pain begins to soften. Using hypnosis, somatic work, and parts work, I help you translate the body’s signals into clear requests and meet those requests with care.
When the body feels heard, it no longer needs to shout. That’s where relief becomes real and lasting.
