There is a Quantum Law that states: "So within - So without".
The Law of Mirrors is a Universal Law. It's always working - like gravity. There's some confusion about what it means when we say that the outer world is a reflection of the inner self. It IS a complex concept, and it’s one with several different layers of meaning. Here are three explanations, each incrementally more advanced than the one before.
The Simple Version

The first, and simplest way to look at it is: whatever is in you, will be immediately recognized in the people and circumstances around you. It will be obvious. You'll either like them or hate them... but whatever you recognize in them, you've got it in yourself! Whatever beauty or love you carry, whatever pain, fear or aggression you carry, will naturally be spotted outside yourself.
In the Simple version of Mirror theory:
That which we know in ourselves, we recognize in others.
The Intermediate Version

As you grow and evolve, you'll begin to perceive the next level of understanding, which is:
You create your own reality.
Don't misunderstand.
We don't simply create what we think about, we create what we ARE.
Do not be afraid that every passing thought is going to materialize in your life! The universe has a built-in time lag to keep that from happening. Call it God's mercy for us childlike humans.
Look deeper. Look at the patterns you carry deep within. That which is unhealed, sad, grieving, angry or frightened will be re-enacted in the people and stories that show up in your life. Whatever you don't like or can't accept about yourself will repeat again and again until you become aware of it. People and circumstances are like pointers meant to show you HOW to look inside.
For instance: you’ll attract people who trigger you as a response to your own unhealed places. You may hate a guy at work and not know why. He grates on your nerves. He pisses you off. He might dislike you in the same way you dislike him. You might find that he dislikes HIMSELF for that same reason. Whichever way, he triggers the hell out of you. Here's the key: don't look at him! Look within! It's not this guy that's making you uncomfortable, he's just a mirror. The universe has given you a gift so you may understand yourself better.
Similarly, you may find a repeating story or circumstance that just keeps happening. These troubling patterns are mirrors, showing us where we still have work to do.
In whichever way the unhealed parts show up, it's always an opportunity to look more closely at your own inner world with the ultimate goal of healing what needs more love.
The intermediate level of wisdom tells us that the universe is a fractal. That is: whatever energy signature you carry will be repeated infinitely, again and again, until you change that vibration.

The Advanced Version

In the deepest spiritual reality, you'll come to know that there is only One Being in all of existence. Because there is only one of us here, “It” is creating all of this. “We”- the One – are creating seemingly billions of facets of our self (all the people in the world). Each facet sees only its small sphere of perception. Each facet believes that it is a distinct entity, separate from all the others. This is not the Truth. When you reach the highest levels of spiritual wisdom, you'll remember the Oneness that We Are. From here, healing looks like a universal event.
Seeing life from this grand, whole viewpoint, you finally understand that everything works within an intricate web of consciousness. Everything experiences quantum entanglement with everything else. The triggers, irritants, pain or fears present within you, are pointing to places where the entirety of 'third density is off base. (To learn what a density is, click here.) Painful images are symbols for the pieces in this realm which are out of alignment with the one. Collectively, our entire dimension shares unconscious shadows that disconnect it from Source/Love. It's our collective job to return those places back to alignment with Truth. It's your personal job to use the mirrors to discover those places. Once found, it's easier to follow the truth-ometer of your Higher Self in order to undo these misunderstandings of Love.
From the highest spiritual perspective, we know that “others” are mirrors for us because they actually ARE US. What are you looking at when you see that irritating co-worker? You're looking at God. What are you looking at when you stare into your own eyes at the bathroom mirror? You're looking into the eyes of God. God shows His face in each part and parcel of his creation.
In the Advanced version of the Mirror Theory, your soul is a mirror for the entire universe. A mirror of God. The microcosm mirrors the macrocosm, and vice versa. It's a hologram. There ARE places in ourselves and in our collective which are desperately waiting for us to re-integrate them with Source/Love. The reason you're here, is to root out those parts that want to go back to wholeness.... and then to usher them home. The purpose of the mirror is to show you where to find those parts.
It's what you're here to do.
